Varanasi: Several innovators, academicians, and BIS officials came together on Thursday to explore the role of standardisation in empowering India's startup ecosystem.
The discussion was part of the BIS–Startups Meet organised at IIT-BHU in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The main objective of the event was to strengthen collaboration between BIS and startups to ensure the quality and safety of their innovative products, discuss the role of standards in supporting innovations and explore opportunities for the engagement of startups in national and international standardisation.
The proceedings were inaugurated with a welcome address by Prof. RS Singh, BIS chair professor, IIT-BHU. This was followed by presentations on the regional R&D and innovation landscape by Prof. PV Rajeev, professor-in-charge of the Atal Incubation Centre, BHU, and Prof. Rajesh Kumar, dean (R&D), IIT-BHU.
A significant highlight of the meet was the BIS–startups connect session, led by Chandan Bahl, DDG (International Relations), BIS. The session explored the strategic benefits of integrating standards into product development and provided an overview of collaboration opportunities. Neha Yadav, scientist E/director, BIS, enriched the discussion by presenting the BIS standardisation process and the organisation's digital initiatives to support startups.
