NEW DELHI: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday launched a fierce salvo at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the reservations, questioning the Prime Minister's claim of being a backward.
Addressing a party-organised Bhagirdari Nyay Mahasammelan , Kharge claimed PM Modi has been "troubling everyone" and that he wants to be a "lone survivor".
"PM Modi calls himself backward even though he once belonged to an upper-caste community. It was only after he became chief minister that he got his community inducted into the backwards list without anyone noticing. In fact, most of us only found out about it after he became Prime Minister," Kharge alleged during a Congress-organised Bhagirdari Nyay Mahasammelan.
Kharge further said: "That’s when the trickery began. When he interacted with backwards communities, he would present himself as one of them. He claimed that Congress was harassing him. But when did we ever trouble him? On the contrary, he’s the one troubling everyone. Tum sabko mitti mein mila ke tum akela zinda rehna chahte hain (You want to bury everyone else and survive alone). But that won’t happen. It may have worked once, twice, even thrice, but it won't go on forever."
Kharege said PM Modi is not ready to give reservations to those who have no voice, and that he is " jhoothon ke sardar ".
"According to the Constitution, there is a 60 per cent reservation, but PM Modi doesn't want to give reservation to those who are academically, socially, and economically backward. PM Modi is not ready to give reservation to those who have no voice. We have to make him bow. We have to tell him with unity that we are no less," Kharge said at the event.
The Congress chief alleged that the PM "lied" about giving MSP to farmers, on jobs and on black money.
"PM Modi's only job is to tell lies but I don't understand why people are not agitated... He promised to provide two crore jobs, bring back black money and giver Rs 15 lakh to everyone... everything was a lie. He even lied on giving MSP to farmers. He promised to increase the income of backward classes ... it never happened. That is why I call PM Modi 'jhoothon ke sardar'. He even makes false statement in Parliament," the Rajya Sabha leader of opposition said.
Stepping up his attack on the BJP and its ideological mentor RSS, Kharege said: "A Prime Minister who speaks lies cannot do good for the country...We must stand united and fight...RSS and BJP are like poison. If you taste this poison, you will be finished."
