Ladakh Police on Friday arrested activist Sonam Wangchuk, a day after the Union Home Ministry cancelled his NGO’s FCRA licence over alleged violations. The arrest comes in the backdrop of violent clashes during protests for statehood and Sixth Schedule status.

In Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs rejected Nato chief Mark Rutte’s claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Russian President Vladimir Putin after US tariff moves, calling it “factually incorrect” and “entirely baseless.”

In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh Police resorted to a lathi charge on protesters who pelted stones after Friday prayers. Demonstrators carrying “I Love Muhammad” placards had gathered outside Ala Hazrat Dargah and cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan’s residence.

Meanwhile, Canada’s national security adviser Nathalie Drouin said Ottawa and New Delhi have found a “way” to address concerns, with cooperation focusing on terrorism and transnational crime.

The Ladakh Police on Friday arrested activist Sonam Wangchuk, two days after the Union Territory witnessed its worst violence in decades, as a protest over statehood and Sixth Schedule safeguards spiralled into clashes.

The ministry of external affairs (MEA) on Friday hit out at Nato chief Mark Rutte over his recent remark claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Russian President Vladimir Putin after the US tariff move. In a strongly-worded reply, the MEA termed the remark "factually incorrect" and "entirely baseless".
