In the middle of a heated baseball season, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani will be reportedly away from the team, for the birth of his first child. Ohtani and his wife Mamiko are expecting their first child. Team manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the leaves, while Eddie Rosario has been stepped up to fill the active roster spot.

Shohei Ohtani and his wife Mamiko soon to be parents
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Manager Dave Roberts, had informed the reporters, right before the Dodgers' series opener on Friday night against the Texas Rangers, that Dodgers’ wife, Shohei Ohtani was with his wife, Mamiko and he’ll be going on MLB's paternity list. He said:

"He and Mamiko are expecting at some point. That's all I know, I don't know when he's going to come back and I don't know when they're going to have the baby, but obviously they're together in anticipation."

Shohei Ohtani had shared the news of Mamiko’s pregnancy on Instagram in late December. Mamiko is a former professional basketball player from Japan. In the post he wrote:

"Can't wait for the little rookie to join our family soon!"

The cute photo included Ohtani’s adorable dog, Decoy, along with a pink onesie, with blue baby shoes and a sonogram.

As per MLB rules, Ohtani can miss up to three games while he’s on paternity leave. The Dodgers have a three-game series in Texas before an off day Monday, then play the Chicago Cubs in Chicago on Tuesday.

Dodgers add outfielder Eddie Rosario to active roster
With Shohei Ohtani going on paternity leave, the Los Angeles Dodgers have made a surprising roster change. They have added outfielder Eddie Rosario to the team. He will be filling in for their designated hitter. This decision shows how the Dodgers support their players’ personal lives while staying ready to adapt quickly, and also highlighting the different challenges players face, while managing a modern baseball team, and being flexible. Rosario’s addition to the team roster brings experience and depth.
