As the Timberwolves boot up for a playoff against the Lakers on Saturday, things are heating up in the camp. Timberwolves have the formidable challenge of standing up to the Lakers’ caliber, and they are using their best scout comp for the slated playoff. The team’s head coach, Chris Finch, talked to the press and revealed his preparation plan, dropping Joe Ingles’ name as a simulation for Lakers’ star Luka Doncic. Reporter Andrew Dukowitz tweeted a snippet from the press meet where Finch shared:
“ We have our scout team ready. Yeah, it’s hard to replicate everything he does. We have Joe Ingles kind of simulating things, who gives us a comp on size and IQ for sure, but it’s certainly tough.”
Joe Ingles, a veteran small forward, certainly has a big responsibility to match Doncic’s stature. According to the head coach, the Utah Jazz's all-time three-pointers score leader is selected for his size and IQ.
NBA analyst throws light on head coach’s strategy of picking Joe Ingles as Luka Doncic’s simulation
While fans had a field day passing hilarious comments on Chris Finch’s selecting Ingles as Doncic’s simulation, NBA analyst Willy Eudy went deeper into the matter. In his analysis published at Dunking with Wolves, he pointed out both sides of the situation. First of all, Rudy acknowledged that Ingles seemed a funny choice. But he tried to open everybody’s eyes to the fact that the scout comp features the team’s end-of-the-bench players.
Rudy explained that Finch has achieved a dual advantage by choosing Ingles as Doncic’s simulation. First, he took the player with an identical IQ and physique to Doncic. Secondly, he allowed the rotational player to practice, using his experience and skill to fortify the preparations against the formidable Lakers.
