Abdul Rashid Khan began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and steadily rose through the ranks to become a DIG—one of the highest positions an Indian officer could hold during British rule. His service was recognized with a government-allotted bungalow in Mandleshwar, near Khargone in Madhya Pradesh, where he lived from 1942 to 1948. Later, his son Salim Khan shifted gears to the world of cinema, moving the family to Mumbai. Today, while Salman, Arbaaz, and Sohail Khan are celebrated names in Bollywood, their roots remain anchored in the legacy of a fearless officer who once wore the uniform with pride.

Apart from his distinguished role in the police force, Salman's grndfather, Abdul Rashid Khan, was also honored with the title “Diler Jung” by the Holkar Kingdom of Indore—a tribute to his extraordinary courage and service.
