Aizawl: Construction of a road by the Tripura govt at Thaidawr hill near Phuldungsei village has triggered outrage in Mizoram, as the latter claims the area within its territory.

State environment, forests & climate change minister Lalthansanga and Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) leaders visited the site on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, to assess the situation.

During his visit to Thaidawr village, Lalthansanga acknowledged the previous road construction in the area and conceded that the village had received insufficient attention from the Mizoram administration.

He promised that the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) govt, led by chief minister Lalduhoma, would actively address the encroachment issue by Tripura and prioritise the area's development.

The MZP delegation, led by president H Lalthianghlima, inspected Thaidawr on Wednesday, asserting that the region belongs to Mizoram as per the 1933 notification under Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873. They urged the Mizoram govt to intervene immediately to halt Tripura's road construction.

The student organisation criticised the state govt's negligence, which they claim enabled Tripura to undertake development projects within Mizoram territory. Thaidawr hill and its village lie adjacent to Phuldungsei village in Jampui hills along the Tripura border.
