Aizawl: NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC), an umbrella organisation of major civil societies and students' associations, along with Zo Reunification Organisation (ZoRO), maintained their opposition to the discontinuation of free movement regime (FMR) and India-Myanmar border fencing during discussions with MHA officials, led by Union home secretary Govind Mohan on Tuesday evening in Delhi.

According to a joint press statement released on Wednesday, while Mohan sought acceptance of the central govt's border fencing proposal, the Mizoram delegation stood firm on their position regarding both issues, expressing hope that the central govt would honour the Mizo people's sentiments.

The delegation requested the Union home secretary to streamline and ease the protected area permit process for foreigners to Mizoram, citing the current system's complexity and obstacles. Mohan responded by appointing the joint director of intelligence bureau (NE) to address these concerns and simplify PAP issuance procedures. Mohan acknowledged the issue of increased drug trafficking from Myanmar through the state and commended public efforts to combat it. He pledged financial support and equipment for anti-drug initiatives through the NCB.

Responding to requests for increased Mizo representation in the CAPF, the Union home secretary announced plans for a new battalion, with recruitment to commence within three months. He confirmed that improvements to Lengpui airport by AAI were being processed, as previously promised during his Mizoram visit. The state chief secretary received instructions to submit proposals promptly to initiate the process within three months.

Prior to meeting Mohan, the delegation had discussions with MHA advisor (NE) AK Mishra.
