Southend Airport plane crash LATEST: Police to issue major update at 3pm

Police are set to issue a major update following a devastating plane crash at London Southend Airport that killed four people. Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin and airport CEO Jude Winstanley will update the media at 3pm this afternoon (July 14) at a press conference at the airport's main entrance.

It comes after a passenger on another plane at Southend Airport yesterday afternoon has recalled the terrifying scenes after a small aircraft burst into flames. A small twin-engine Beechcraft King Air B200 - which specialises in medical transportation - erupted into a fireball at around 4pm on Sunday, July 13, with Essex Police warning people to stay away from the area.

It was travelling from Southend to Lelystad in the Netherlands, where its operator Seusch Aviation is based Wren Stranix, 16, from Woodbridge in Suffolk, was with her family and boyfriend in another aircraft when the other plane crashed.

Speaking to Sky News, she said: "The flight attendant didn't know what was going on. They said the plane had exploded and they didn't know if it was safe or not. The airport was in lockdown."

It comes as easyJet issued an update to passengers on Monday morning. It said: "As London Southend airport remains closed today, three return flights this morning were cancelled in advance and we are operating the remainder of today's flying programme via alternative London airports.

"We are doing all we can to help customers rearrange their plans and have contacted them directly with options to rebook or receive a refund. We continue to work closely with the airport to understand when operations are able to resume."
