All trains have been cancelled at Paddington railway station, London, leaving hundreds of passengers affected. Trains to and from Reading are currently affected and disruption is expected until the end of the day.
National Rail says it is due to a fault with the signalling system between Reading and Twyford. Passengers travelling on South Western Railway trains are facing delays due to a trespasser, according to reports. Images show Paddington busy, with many people carrying luggage and some sitting on the floor.
It comes at the end of the Easter bank holiday, with many expected to be making journeys home after the long weekend.
The only available route west as it stands is to Heathrow Airport, reports.
People have been taking to social media to share their frustrations.
One user on X said: "Paddington Station is a fine mess today. No trains running and no alternatives offered. Elizabeth Line is running one train an hour to Reading and no overhead trains at all.
"Both GWE and Elizabeth Line use overhead power lines. Makes no sense."
Another person said "what on earth is happening at Newbury" and tagged Great Western Railway's help account on X.
The user wrote: "Daughter stuck on badly overcrowded, late running train Pewsey to Paddington. Then stuck at Newbury. No help or advice just bottled water.. now told to get off and on a train back to Pewsey."
