Netflix Wednesday star Jenna Ortega admits feeling 'anxious' on season 2 set

Jenna Ortega, the star of Wednesday, has candidly shared her struggles with anxiety while filming the second season of the Addams Family spin-off.

The Addams Family, a gothic sitcom sensation that first graced screens over six decades ago, has captivated audiences through various adaptations, becoming an iconic piece of pop culture.

However, the franchise soared to new heights in 2022 when Jenna Ortega, known for her role in You, took on the iconic character of the deadpan and macabre Wednesday Addams in Netflix's dedicated series.

Fans were bewitched by the darkly humorous show, propelling Wednesday to smash Netflix records by amassing the highest number of viewing hours in a single week for an English-language series, even surpassing Stranger Things' fourth season.

Wednesday also clinched the title of the third most-watched English-speaking series on Netflix, racking up over 752 million hours viewed.

Given its phenomenal reception, it was hardly surprising news when Netflix greenlit a second season.

Despite the overwhelming success and burgeoning fanbase, Ortega has made efforts to distance herself from the hype surrounding Wednesday.

Speaking to Netflix, she shared: "It's still quite difficult to comprehend. I see the effects and changes that it's had on my life and my castmates' lives, but it's something that you're very detached from.

"If you see a number, it looks kind of crazy, but it's not like I've seen it in a room or anything like that.

"I just try not to pay too much attention to that stuff because success for me is more about feeling accomplished and being able to put something out into the world and feel proud.

"It's wonderful that it's been received so well, because there's a lot of pressure."

The young star then opened up about her "anxious" feelings during the filming of the new episodes.

"When we started the show, I was 18 and had never worked with a director as big as Tim [Burton]," she revealed.

"I had led a show before, but not with a character that was so well known and loved prior to me joining.

"It's a relief, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I still don't feel super anxious or feel like I have something I need to live up to every day on set.

"Maybe that's a good thing, but it hasn't gotten easier."

Following her triumph over Joseph Crackstone (William Houston) and saving Nevermore Academy in the debut series, Wednesday finds herself uncomfortably popular in the second series.

Yet, her focus shifts when she experiences a chilling premonition of Enid Sinclair's (Emma Myers) demise.

The question remains: will Wednesday's best mate meet a grim fate, or can the gloomy teen thwart destiny and save her in time?
