Towels can be challenging to clean properly; without correct care, they can lose their plushness and become rough against the skin. The most significant laundry mistake people commit with towels is overusing detergent and fabric conditioner. The leftover residue can accumulate within the material, causing towels to feel stiff and coarse.
Nevertheless, Kelly, a laundry and cleaning expert known as @mrs.ds.cleaning.reviews online, has shared that towels can be effortlessly restored to their fluffy texture using two straightforward natural ingredients. In a video, Kelly explained: "Here's my top tip to keep your towels soft and fluffy. It's time to ditch the laundry detergent and the softener and make a switch to soda crystals and tea tree oil."
This straightforward yet remarkably successful method works because soda crystals are highly alkaline, enabling them to dissolve any deposits adhering to the towel fibres.
Tea tree oil possesses antibacterial properties, allowing it to cleanse towels, eliminate trapped dampness buildup within the fibres to help restore softness, and banish any stale odours.
Both soda crystals and tea tree oil are considerably milder on towels compared to most shop-bought laundry products. They also naturally disinfect and soften the material.
Using these products is not only more environmentally conscious but also economical, as only small quantities of each are required to revitalise towels and make them feel fresh again.
Kelly pointed out, "Soda crystals will strip off any residue buildup on your towels. It's a natural oxi stain remover, which is great for keeping your white towels white. Always remember no fabric softener; instead, make a switch to tea tree oil."
When washing the towels, don't overload the washing machine with too many at once. This can prevent them from being rinsed thoroughly and may cause them to become stiff.
Kelly poured a scoop of the soda crystals in the detergent section of the washing machine drawer and several drops of the tea tree oil in the fabric softener compartment.
Wash your towels at 60C and give them a good shake before hanging them up to dry. This helps to loosen the fibres and restore their fluffiness.
Once your towels are dry, they'll be back to their original softness, ready for you to enjoy a comfortable, non-rough feel when used.
