Six household things to clean every Saturday according to a professional

Send Push

There are certain domestic cleaning chores that you'll want to ensure are tackled weekly, according to an expert cleaner. If you have a few spare hours on a Saturday, you can easily cover all of the areas - and the result will be noticeable, reports the Express.

Danielle Moore, founder of A Little Moore Clean commercial cleaning company, is also a mother-of-three and former police detective. Here, she outlines 6 areas in the house that can be easily spot-cleaned on the weekend, making for a pleasant week ahead.

1. Bedding

Changing bedsheets every week is a non-negotiable for Moore. "This is one of my priorities, as bedding collects sweat, skin cells, and dust mites," she explains.

"Washing your bedding weekly maintains hygiene, improves sleep quality, and helps your bedding last longer with the proper upkeep."

2. Frequently touched surfaces

Every Saturday, do a quick sweep with a cloth and some anti-bac spray of the places that are touched the most in the household. These may include light switches, doorknobs, drawer handles, bannisters, remote controls, keyboards, and phones.

Moore emphasises: "These areas and items spread germs quickly, as they harbour bacteria, oil and dirt, yet they are cleaned the least."

Bins need cleaning to prevent smells and bacteria from developing. "Although we use bin liners, bins still seem to get pretty grimy and hold a smell after the trash has been removed," Danielle notes.

4. Bathrooms

Firstly, scrub up your bathroom mirror. Experts use a DIY blend of equal parts water and vinegar or a shop-bought glass cleaner for a streak-free shine.

Next on the list, give those shower walls a good scour – that same trusty water and vinegar mix to wash down the tiles before a hot water rinse, though a foam cleaner is a decent alternative.

And don't forget the loo – remember to spruce up the exterior and rim as well.

5. Kitchen

Wipe down cleaning appliances, your hob, and your microwave as well as the inside of the fridge. Dispose of any out-of-date food as you go.

6. Floors

Be savvy and leave the floors 'til the end; that way, you won't muck them up traipsing through the house as you tackle other tasks.

Cleaning your floors can have the biggest impact to the overall look of your home, so is worth doing weekly.

Stick to these tips every Saturday and you'll have a running schedule that keeps your home clean and manageable.
