Britney Spears shares heartbreaking insight into ill-fated Sam Asghari wedding

Britney Spears has made a bombshell claim about her doomed marriage to Sam Asghari. The curious couple tied the knot in 2022, but split up two years later.

Fitness model, Sam, 31, was lauded by many of Britney's fans for standing by the singer, 43, during the #freeBritney era when she battled to dissolve her conservatorship, which saw her father, Jamie, take control of much of her life.

However, in a heartbreaking admission, Britney has admitted she only married Sam - who she wed after successfully winning her legal case against her family - to distract her from the heartbreak of being "cut off" from her sons.

Branding the union a “fake distraction”, she posted on Instagram: “We’re just people so fragile and human. The hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those three years… I was cut off from calling or texting and I remember in shock my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears.

“It’s weird me and Sam were married but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it…”

Britney's sons Jayden James, 18, and Sean Preston, 19, moved to Hawaii with their father Kevin Federline in 2023, but her relationship with them was strained before then. Kevin has had majority custody of the brothers since October 2007 after the singer's breakdown.

The Overprotected star says she now believes her short marriage to Sam was just a way for her to distract from her grief. However, in November 2024, it was reported that Jayden had visited his mother in Los Angeles and that in December, both boys spent Christmas with Britney.

The Lucky star wrote on Instagram at the time: "Best Christmas of my life !!!"

In April 2025, Britney then shared a video of one of her sons playing the piano and wrote: “Mamas don’t get enough credit at all these days !!! I mean just saying !!!

“I made a person !!! A live breathing person and I made two of them !!! And my boys are so incredibly sweet and charming !!! I’m so blessed.”

In the most recent post, which accompanies another nude photo of Britney, the star insist she knows she is “healing” because she is “hungry again like a child or baby”.

Talking wildly to the camera, claiming there is "way too much abuse and trauma" in her former home, she: “I’m so hungry it hurts and when I eat it’s like it’s my first time ever eating in my life. I believe although I loved my home there is waaay too much abuse and trauma in there…. Today I thank Jesus for food. I feel like telling others 'NO… Owning my body'… and letting them REALLY know where I'm from… My soul has never experienced food like this a day in my life… so silly and embarrassing I'm going to eat cookies and cream ice cream now…god bless u all.”

Meanwhile, Kevin has a book coming out called You Thought You Knew, set to release on October 21. Apparently, the former dancer wants to tell his side of the story, including his career working with with superstars like Michael Jackson and Destiny's Child - as well as, of course, being the former Mr Spears.
