A British woman has died in Turkey after she wasrun over twice by the same car by an alleged drunk driver.
Lisa Di Palma, from east London, was hit by a car while on a pedestrian crossing in Fethiye, Turkeywhere she was on holiday with her husband celebrating their wedding anniversary. The incident occurred on August 6 and left her with serious injuries to her hip and leg.
Reports indicate she passed away at 5am in the intensive care ward of a hospital in the area and her family have now flown out to be there. Keith Di Palma told how his wife Lisa, 61, was hit on a pedestrian crossing on the Cahit Beğenç Boulevard in the Foça neighbourhood of Fethiye. He claimed that in a bid to drive off and leave the scene, the driver had struck her a second time.

An image shows a man being taken away by police after she was hit on the pedestrian crossing. The driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, according to Turkish newspaper Nefes Gazetesi.
Video footage showed Lisa was hit by a man driving a silver car. She was helped by shocked people who were close to the incident, but the car continued to accelerate after the first hit, trampling Lisa. The driver then fled and ran over Lisa once again, reports say.
Three men pushed the car off Lisa and shouted at the driver, who tried to escape before being apprehended by police. Further reports say an investigation was launched and the driver was sent to Eşen Prison after he was arrested.
The couple, from Hornchurch, east London, had been enjoying their holiday Fethiye, a port city in southwestern Turkey, when Lisa was struck in the road accident.
Lisa had said on Instagram: “Happy 36th Anniversary to the one I am proud to call my husband the one who picks me up when I am down and the one who is always there for me here’s to many more happy years together love you Keithy boy."
Keith said before his wife's death that his wife did not rememebr the incident. He called this a "blessing".
Keith described the incident as “horrific” but said his wife had begun the “long road to recovery”. He wrote: “I’m a broken man, but I will stay strong for my family and my beautiful loving wife.” And he also said how Lisa did not have any memory of the accident while saying this was a “blessing”.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office told the Mirror: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities."
Lisa and Keith reportedly the Tigers Junior Football Club in east London for over two decades.
Turkey remains among the most favoured holiday destinations for Brits, with an impressive 4.4 million UK tourists flocking to the nation in 2024. Time Out reported this positioned Turkey as the eighth most sought-after tourist hotspot for UK holidaymakers, trailing behind Spain, France, and Greece, though visitor numbers continue climbing annually.
