When there is a threat to our body, the immune system produces inflammation as a natural process. But when this inflammation persists for a long time, it can be a sign of a serious problem. In such a situation, let us know what is chronic inflammation, what are its symptoms and how to avoid it.

Chronic Inflammation: Chronic inflammation, that is, inflammation that persists inside the body for a long time, can be a serious health problem. When our body fights an infection, injury or harmful elements, the immune system produces inflammation as a natural process. It usually gets cured in some time, but when this inflammation persists for a long time, it is called chronic inflammation. This condition arises when the body is unable to recognize any internal threat and the immune system remains constantly active. The reasons behind this include poor lifestyle, excessive stress, obesity, smoking, lack of sleep and excessive consumption of processed food. It gradually starts damaging the body from inside and can cause many serious diseases.
If inflammation persists in the body for a long time, it gradually starts damaging the organs and cells. This disturbs the immunity of the body and it also starts attacking healthy tissues. It also affects the heart, brain, liver, intestines and joints. This condition can cause heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer's, cancer and autoimmune diseases. Apart from this, constant inflammation also causes fatigue, weight gain, skin rashes or acne, digestive problems and allergy problems. Its symptoms are often mild and unnoticed, so it is very important to identify and control it in time, otherwise it can gradually affect the functioning of the body.
What are the symptoms of chronic inflammation?
Dr. Neeraj Nischal of the Department of Medicine at Delhi AIIMS explains that the symptoms of chronic inflammation often emerge gradually and are ignored considering them to be normal. But when these symptoms persist for a long time, one should be alert. Constant fatigue and feeling low energy can be its early signs. Apart from this, frequent cold or cough, mild but persistent swelling or pain in any part of the body, skin rashes, mouth ulcers, burning sensation in the eyes, stiffness or pain in the joints, and stomach problems are also its signs.
Prolonged inflammation can sometimes lead to mental problems like mood swings, lack of sleep, depression or anxiety. Hair loss, rapid weight gain or loss, and frequent allergy problems are also its symptoms. If these symptoms persist for weeks or months, then a doctor should be contacted.
