CCTV footage has emerged of a shocking bow and arrow attack at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Lucknow. Dinesh Murmu, a man from Bihar's Munger district, shot an arrow at Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Virendra Singh who was on duty at the office gate.
The incident reportedly took place on Friday, May 23 at 11:15 AM when ASI Singh noticed Murmu sitting in suspicious circumstances near the CBI office on Naval Kishore Road. When questioned, Murmu lost his composure and launched the attack using a traditional bow and arrow.
Security camera footage shows Murmu firing an arrow that struck the ASI in the chest. As Singh tried to escape into the guard cabin, the attacker followed and fired another arrow. The wounded officer was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital, where doctors report the arrow wound is 5 centimeters deep.
The attack from Murmu created panic among the other security personnel. However, one of the security personnel knocked Murmu down with what appeared to be a hockey stick. According to reports, the attacker is mentally unstable.
Investigation reveals Murmu was formerly a railway gangman who in 1995 had reported a railway employee for taking a Rs 200 bribe, leading to a CBI case. He was dismissed from his job in 2000 and has since suffered from mental health issues, believing his case is still pending in CBI court.
Murmu has a history of violent incidents, including attacking police officers in Delhi (2005) and Jaunpur (2015), resulting in multiple imprisonments. DCP Central Ashish Srivastava confirmed the arrest while the injured ASI continues treatment.
