Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) successfully held its orientation programme for newly admitted undergraduate students on Friday, marking the start of a transformative journey for over 500 young minds.
As many as 502 students have been admitted this year across various undergraduate programmes, including 16 trailblazers, in the newly launched Bachelor of Design (B Des) programme, a significant addition to the institute’s academic offerings.
Major General Gautam Mahajan, Sena Medal, Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor at the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), Mhow, attended the event as the chief guest.
Welcoming the new batch, Prof Suhas Joshi, director of IIT Indore, addressed the students and their families with warmth and pride. He congratulated the students for securing admission to IIT Indore and acknowledged the efforts of their parents in helping them achieve their dreams.

Highlighting the institute’s commitment to holistic growth, Prof Joshi said that IIT Indore focused not only on academic excellence but also on nurturing creativity, leadership and social consciousness. He stressed that the aim was to develop global citizens who could think innovatively and act responsibly.
Speaking about the launch of the B.Des programme, he explained that the introduction of this course reflected the institute’s broader academic vision of encouraging interdisciplinary learning and design thinking. He described it as a vital step in aligning the curriculum with the future needs of industry and society.
To ensure a smooth transition into campus life, IIT Indore will conduct an eight-day orientation programme titled ‘Genesis’ from Saturday. This comprehensive programme is designed to introduce students to various aspects of life at IIT Indore and the support systems available to them.
Genesis will include a range of activities such as a visit to MCTE to understand military life, sessions on life skills, science and technology activities, physical training, gymkhana and club orientations, harmony workshops, expert talks, wellness sessions and financial literacy modules.
