A wedding in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, took a shocking turn when a fun tradition turned into a fight. During the " Joota Chupai" ceremony — where the bride’s family hides the groom’s shoes and asks for money to return them — a big misunderstanding caused chaos.
The groom, Muhammad Shabbir from Chakrata, Uttarakhand, reached the wedding venue on April 5, 2025. When the bride’s family asked for Rs 50,000 for the shoes, Shabbir offered only Rs 5,000. This upset the bride’s relatives, and some of them started calling the groom a "beggar" in front of hundreds of guests.
Things quickly got out of control. Shabbir was reportedly locked in a room and beaten with sticks by members of the bride’s family.
Later, the bride’s side claimed that the fight actually started because the groom’s family questioned the quality of the gold gifts given by the bride’s family. They accused Shabbir's family of caring more about money than the bride.
Police arrived at the scene to calm everyone down. Both families went to the Najibabad police station to explain their sides of the story. Eventually, the families settled the matter after talking things out in front of the police.
A police officer said, "There was a dispute over the 'joota chupai' ritual. Both families came to the police station and the matter was settled peacefully."
