Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal transfer pros and cons

Send Push

We are no closer to finding out who will be Arsenal's striker signing for the 2025/26 season.

The Gunners are keen to strengthen in the striker department and have been linked with both Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko in the summer transfer window.

Both players have at one time or another during this transfer window been deemed to be the chosen one, with reports of talks being at advanced stages over a deal.

However, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive and there is yet to be an agreement with either player to make the move to the Emirates Stadium.

Both men have been linked with Arsenal for more than a year, with Gyokeres the one most recently in the news when it comes to the Gunners. So, we thought we would take a look at the list of pros and cons for signing the Swede.

Pros

He is a goal machine!

Much has been made of Gyokeres' scoring record in the last couple of seasons and it is fair to say he is prolific. Gyokeres has managed 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting CP.

He wants to move

If Arsenal put up the money, it should not be a difficult deal to get done, with Gyokeres keen to leave Sporting and test himself elsewhere and it has been reported that he wants to join Arsenal, having already said no to former boss Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

He is a beast

Gyokeres is a physical specimen. He is strong and powerful and can score all sorts of goals. Not only that but he is also known for his acceleration and seemingly has the all-round game for the Premier League.

Cons

His age

Compared to Sesko, Gyokeres does not have as much time on his side. Gyokeres is 27 and is not a sellable asset; he is a signing for Arsenal for now, and they may only get four or five good years out of him.

His experience

The stick that has often been used to beat Gyokeres with is the fact that he has not been playing in one of Europe's top five leagues. He has at least had Champions League experience from 2024/25, but he would be a bit of a risk in that regard.

His character

We mentioned above that he wants to leave Sporting. There are plenty of reports of him potentially going on strike to force through a move, while there were also reports of him splitting up with his girlfriend so as not to have ties to Portugal anymore. We do not know if any of these rumours are true or not, but if they are, do Arsenal want that sort of profile of player at the club?

Conclusion

There are plenty of pros and cons for signing the 27-year-old Swede during this summer transfer window. He will cost a similar amount to other target Sesko.

The brass tacks is his goalscoring record, however. Gyokeres knows where the goal is and that is exactly what Arsenal need.

The Gunners have the creative players to make chances, they need someone to be in the right place to put them away. Gyokeres should do that.
