NEW DELHI: At least six people were killed when their autorickshaw collided with a state transport bus on the Sami-Radhanpur highway in Gujarat's Patan district on Thursday, police officials reported.

The accident occurred around 11.30 am near Sami village when the state transport bus, traveling from Himmatnagar to Kutch, collided with the three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction.

"All six persons travelling in the autorickshaw, including the driver, died on the spot. The impact was so intense that the mangled remains of the auto got stuck underneath the bus," said Patan District Superintendent of Police V K Nayi.

According to preliminary investigation, the bus driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, leading to the collision.

"Prime facie, it appears that the bus driver lost control of the wheel while trying to overtake another vehicle, resulting in the collision," the official stated.

Local police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

BJP leader and Radhanpur MLA Lavingji Thakor, who visited the accident site, confirmed that all six occupants of the auto died at the scene.
